MODULE 2
MODULE 3
Prerequisite:
Compeltion of Module 1 of the Scolio-Pilates® Method.
We will dive deeper into understanding the anatomy of scoliosis and use that understanding to define the curves of scoliosis (3, 4 and thoraco-lumbar curves). Once we define the curves we can begin to understand how to correct those curves towards neutral. We use scoliosis specific corrections and scoliosis specific exercises to aid us in bringing our clients towards a more balanced system.
The scoliosis specific exercises begin with corrections in the basic positions of prone, supine, side-lying, seated and standing. Once the corrections are applied in the basic positions, we add movement to these corrections either on the mat or with the assistance of the Pilates equipment. Come learn why Scolio-Pilates®, a form of Pilates that allows for modifications to assist the client with scoliosis in the Pilates studio, is now being used by children’s hospitals, physical therapy clinics and Pilates studios worldwide to help with the management of scoliosis.

Module 3 is a 4-day deep dive into the nuances of scoliosis specific exercise correction.
Topics to be covered include:
-
Review the positioning and wedging techniques from Module 2 while adding to your understanding with more details about how we can encourage the scoliotic spines towards a more neutral patterning.
-
Understanding the breathing techniques that can be applied to your scoliotic clients as they are either resting or active to open up the space of the lungs to encourage healthy pulmonary function.
-
Take a deeper look at how the connective tissue is impacted by scoliosis and also, how the scoliosis is impacted by the connective tissue. We will learn how to best have these two systems work together instead of in opposition.
-
Work with scoliosis models to help assist your understanding of assessment as well as exercise and wedging application.
